Why Learn at Cook Island Marine Park?

Less currents

Cook Island always has a calm side protected from the wind and swell. Our local shore dives are tide dependant, so the window of time you have to go diving comfortably is very small. You generally only have a 1-2 hour window to get 2 dives in.

Longer dive times and breaks between dives

Diving from a boat we can have a break between dives. So there is plenty of time to have a coffee/snack and relax before our next dive. And because we are not racing the change of the tide (as mentioned above) we can do longer dives rather than two quick dives.

Great visibility

Located off-shore in the clean ocean waters, for at least 90% of the year you’ll find Cook Island will have much cleaner and clearer water. We can never guarantee great visibility, but we can take you where the chances are increased. Regardless of the visibility, Cook Island offers divers a unique chance to find incredible “small stuff”.

No boat traffic

Cook Island is well away from any shipping channels so there is very little, if any boat traffic. This means safer diving conditions for beginner divers.

An abundance of colourful fish and corals

At Cook Island you can see both green and logger head turtles, octopus, cuttlefish, squid, scorpion fish, a variety of moray eels, damsel fish, anemone fish (Nemo), for those divers with a keen eye: many different nudibranchs, pipefish and frog fish! During the warmer months we have a chance to see leopard sharks and manta rays! The coral itself is equally as beautiful as the Great Barrier Reef!

Variety of sites to choose from

Cook Island is a sheltered dive site with many moorings, so you can do 100 different dives on the island and never have the same experience twice!
